As a newer grandparent, the first chapters of Josh Mulvihill's book, Grandparenting, were a bit of a reality check. After wrestling with Mulvihill's exhortation that being a grandparent is not about spoiling and sugar-loading our grandkids, I was encouraged to look at the special opportunity I have to invest in the lives of these particular children—my grandchildren.
Am I praying for them? Am I communicating with them in age-appropriate words and actions the love of Christ, the truths of His Word, the stories of how He has worked in my life?
What a blessing to be able to pass on to the next generation not just a few dollars, a few cookies, and toys—but Christ, our only sure and certain hope.
